Trump's Job Approval 43% in Early June

by

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Donald Trump's job approval rating is now 43%, in the middle of the 40% to 46% range seen since early April. Although it falls short of the April 17-30 46% record-high rating of his presidency, it is significantly better than the 35% lows seen several times during his first year in office.

Trump's latest rating, from a June 3-16 Â鶹´«Ã½AV poll, is statistically similar to his 40% rating in late-May. The fact that Trump is routinely registering approval ratings at or above his term average of 40% could be due to consistently low unemployment figures and a generally strong economy this year.

Despite the strong economy, Trump's approval rating remains persistently mired in the 40s. Trump's tenure has been fraught with controversy -- most recently involving his dispute with Mexico over Central American immigrants, his tough talk about a trade war with China, and his equivocation about whether he would accept damaging information about Democratic opponents for the presidency from foreign governments.

Opinion of Trump remains sharply polarized with 89% of Republicans, 37% of independents and 6% of Democrats currently approving of his job performance. Republicans' and Democrats' ratings of the president have not deviated much over the course of his presidency, but independents have been somewhat more variable in their views.
